U.S. Representative John Joyce thinks internet speeds… or at least the speed in which some customers can actually GET internet in many parts of Pennsylvania… is too slow. Now, he is introducing legislation that calls for faster broadband access in rural communities. It’s the Broadband Competition and Deployment Act. Simply put, it exempts broadband projects from certain reviews and it bypasses what are often bureaucratic delays to speed up broadband deployment. It is being introduced at the same time that the Energy and Commerce Committee is pushing for reforms to the broadband permitting process that’s resulted in many Americans going totally without internet. Joyce said that farmers here in Pennsylvania for instance, are relying more and more on precision agriculture, and that requires broadband internet access. He said Pennsylvania communities need reliable broadband access, and his legislation will speed up the process of providing it.
